We invite you to join us on March 25th and 26th, 2011 for the 8th African Economic Forum at Columbia University. This year our theme is Roaring Giant: Africa’s Economic Ascent, highlighting the strong GDP growth experienced by many African countries during the current global recession. The event will seek to explore some of the challenges and opportunities arising from this growth.
Initiated in 2004, the African Economic Forum has grown to be the largest Africa-focused event at Columbia University with over 400 students, alumni and professionals participating last year. The conference seeks to highlight opportunities and challenges through stimulating discussion, insights and strategies for a prosperous Africa. It is organized by three of Columbia University’s premiere graduate programs: Columbia Graduate School of Business, Columbia Law School, and Columbia School of International and Public Affairs, and is the only one of its kind at a top tier institution.
The event will bring together current students, alumni, faculty and the professional business community. We will convene thought leaders and entrepreneurs from the continent and the Diaspora in a series of interactive discussions and conversations while providing ample opportunity for networking in a relaxed environment.
We are pleased to inform you that we have confirmed a number of distinguished keynote speakers from various fields including J. Kofi Bucknor, Managing Partner at Kingdom Zephyr, Dr. Shantayanan Devarajan, Chief Economist – Africa Region at the World Bank, Danny Jordaan, CEO of the 2010 FIFA World Cup and Fola Adeola, Co-Founder of Guaranty Trust Bank.
We will also be hosting several panel discussions covering a variety of topics including entrepreneurship, film, private equity, women’s leadership, creative industries, fashion trendsetters, contracts, energy & infrastructure, human capital, financial services, sports, ICT, healthcare, democracy & economic justice, consumer packaged goods and an India-Africa trade and investment summit.
We are excited to meet you and look forward to seeing you on campus at the forum!
